Preserving Antique Treasures
On Friday, Oct. 16 from 3 to 5 p.m., the Boothbay Region Historical Society joined by the Friends of the Southport Historical Society and the Boothbay Railway Village will host Preserving Antique Treasures presented by professional conservator Barbara Moore at the Town Hall Building at the Railway Village.
Barbara will uncover the surprising things that can speed up aging of your family treasures-from beloved photos to paintings to your great grandmother’s wedding dress. During Barbara’s presentation she will also share simple, practical ideas to preserve your precious objects and prevent further damage, to ensure their stories endure for generations to come.
Barbara earned her formal credentials in conservation at the University of London. From there, she built an exemplary career directing conservation laboratories at some of the world’s most renowned cultural institutions. Her leadership has guided the conservation teams at the Pitt Rivers Museum in Oxford, England, the Arizona State Museum, the Peabody Museum at Yale University, and the Strong Museum in Rochester, New York.
Beyond laboratory management, Barbara is a leading authority on safeguarding material culture. She specializes in collections care, conservation planning, and emergency preparedness, response, and salvage. As a regional instructor for the "Train the Trainers: Emergency Response for Cultural Institutions" program, she has dedicated years to teaching workshops that equip caretakers to protect and recover priceless collections from disasters.
This event is free and open to the public; donations are greatly appreciated to help fund this special program. No reservations are required, and refreshments will be provided. For more details, email info@boothbayhistorical.org or call 207-633-0820, Thursday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
